Roatan Information FAQ > Getting There & Around

How do you travel from Belize to Roatan?

It is possible to travel from Belize to Roatan. There are one or two options. Atlantic Airlines fly from Belize City to San Pedro Sula and direct to Roatan. The last schedule we have seen which was in May 2003 said the flights leave on Mon, Wed and Fri. We would recommend you try to check the schedule with Atlantic beforehand to make sure the flight is still running if you where interested in doing this. You can call them in Honduras at:

La Ceiba - Tel:440-2343 and 440-2347
Roatan - Tel:445-1179 and 445-0055
San Pedro Sula - Tel:668-8010 and 557-8088

You could either fly direct to Roatan or an option would be to fly to San Pedro Sula and then travel by bus to La Ceiba, this is a nice 3 hr bus ride. One of the best bus lines in Honduras is Hedman Alas. Who have just started running a service from the San Pedro Sula Airport which then connects with departures to La Ceiba and so forth. Have a look at their website to see their schedules, prices and to get an idea of company. The buses are first class and the service of the company is very good:

Another more adventuress route would be to take a boat from Punta Gorda, Belize to Puerto Barrios in Guatemala. The boat leaves twice daily. From Puerto Barrios you can take a bus to the Guatemalan and Honduran border from there you can get a bus to Puerto Cortes and at times a direct bus to San Pedro Sula. Then it is just a matter of another bus from San Pedro Sula to La Ceiba. This is a long trip and from Punta Gorda to La Ceiba may take 8 to 9 hours, approx. If you where planning to take this route consider stopping in San Pedro Sula to break the journey up abit.
