Hi Roatan List Members.
Steve, I think "Introductions" would be fun. Its always nice to know a little more about the folks you're chatting with. So, on that note, let me tell everyone a little about myself.
I live in the States, but have enjoyed traveling for many years. I used to say: "There's a big world out there, full of interesting places to go and people to meet. No matter how much I might like a particular place in my travels, I can't go back until I've seen all there is to see." Then along came Roatan. We came for a vacation six years ago and have continued to return every year since. So much for my Master Plan. (And neither my husband or I are divers!) We've made some very good friends on the island, both locals as well as ex-pats, several of whom treat us like family. I enjoy promoting Roatan whenever the opportunity presents itself, just because I think it is a special place - sand flies and all!
My home is in Western New York (state). My husband and I are parents to a dog who believes she's a person and a small Quaker parrot with a mind of his own. When I'm not promoting Roatan, I work as a sales/marketing administrative assistant for an electronics company. I enjoy corresponding with friends around the world. I'm forever waiting for summer to arrive!
And thats me.
Thanks for this forum, Steve. I hope others will take the opportunity to introduce themselves.
Best regards,
Sue

There are now 50 of us here! Tom kind of kicked it off today, but I would like to open the floor to anyone who wants to introduce themselves. This includes anyone who is renting something, selling something, or offering services related to Roatan. Commerce is OK on this list, which can be an excellent resource if we jump in and give our opinions (respectfully, as we all know) on what's good and bad.
I did a short intro a little while after I started the list, but here's a recap:
Over the past ten years, I've spent roughly half that time in Roatan, the Honduran mainland, or El Salvador. I was on Roatan full time for a little over two years doing Web things, working on a contract for an engineering company, and doing construction oversight.
I also took over www.roatanet.com around four years ago after a friend of mine left the island. Here's a little commercial bit. I do discounted web design, site promotion, linking, and hosting for people on Roatan. I'm in the US now and also provide those services to companies there, but not discounted. When I first went to Roatan, I believe that only a handful of people on the island had ever seen the Internet. It's been very exciting to bring thousands of people to the island over the years via the website.
That's about all.
