    Subject: [Roatan] Roatan marine charts

In response to my request for information on Roatan maps several people also
indicated a similar interest. For those interested in marine charts, the
following are available in 34 x 48" size in 1:80,000 scale. They cover the
mainland coast to the north side of Roatan/Guanaja.

    "Approaches to Le Ceiba", #28154
    "Approaches to Puerto Castilla", #28151

To get all of Roatan both charts are necessary. These are Defense Mapping
Agency marine charts, available by special order in better map stores and
marinas. Guanaja is referenced as having a separate chart, #28125, covering
only the island and close-in waters.

The charts detail nicely the coastal waters but provide very few details on
the islands or mainland. Because of the northern inclination of the coast
going east, Puerto Castilla has to be offset up about 4.5" to get it to line
up with Le Ceiba, but they do align very well.
