John, Steve is correct. The best snorkeling from shore is at West Bay Beach. There are numerous places to stay there. The beach is big and very beautiful. You can find information on places to stay on www.roatanet.com. We have also found good snorkeling right in Half Moon Bay (in West End). Half Moon Bay Cabins (West End) is also a nice place. When you enter the water from their steps, you will be right on the reef. Lost Paradise has some very nice beach cabins, as well as their own little private beach area. You can also snorkel from there, but its a haul to get to the reef. Still, there's plenty to see in the waters just off shore. West Bay Beach is a short water taxi ride from West End. Fantasy Island is farther out on the island and, in my opinion, is not as nice for snorkeling from shore. Enjoy your trip! | |
