We are traveling with 3 families to visit Roatan for the first time in March. This board has been very helpful in searching for info. on travelers checks vs. cash, shopping, and activities. We are very concerned about the recent killing on the island. Although it appears to be an isolated incident, the killer(s) is/are still there, and apparently have nothing further to lose. One question which I haven't seen addressed in the archives is whether it's necessary to get the typhoid fever vaccination before traveling to Roatan. We are getting conflicting info. from doctors and the county health dept here in Dallas. It is expensive and we are wondering whether it's necessart, or just an abundance of caution. Also, cloroquine (sp) seems to be the predominant anti-malarial drug referenced in the archives. My doctor has prescribed something called malequine (sp?), does anyone know it's effectiveness for the type of malaria in the area? | |
