. Sven: From what I remember, the "mouse deer" we are referring too belong to genetic stock that once ranged from Virginia down through Florida (where some still exists in the Everglades) to the Bahamas, Cuba, Puerto Rico, and the Virgins...as well as Yucatan and...obviously, Central America. I'll check my references and see if i can come up with the correct genus and species...but they are quite clearly not the White Tail deer of the Eastern United States today...I'll get back to you on this after talking with a friend of mine in the Biology Dept. here at the University.
