    Hi,

I can't believe I let this one go by! I'll have to ask David Evans, since
he's been coming for 30+ years, but in the ten years I've been coming to
Roatan and the 3 or so I lived there, I never heard of a shark attack. In
two cases, I have heard of a minor shark bite. What happened was some
snorkelers and divers think the little reef sharks are cute (kind of a shark
Mini-Me for you Austin Powers fans) and try to grab their tails. They
shortly discover that low and behold, a shark is very limber and can touch
its tail with its mouth. Youch!

    > This could be a bad subject but are there many shark attacks off Roatan?

There are also a few dive shops offering shark dives. I haven't done one,
but I hear they go to a certain spot on the South shore where there is a
congregation of sharks and dive there. There haven't been any problems that
I've heard. I've also heard that it's a bit offshore and there are bigger
    sharks present.

I am a big fan of snorkeling, but haven't seen any sharks of any size inside the reef. I wonder if the reef discourages them from coming in?

    Best regards,
    Steve
