    April News letter ‘03 -

Much has happened in the last thirty days both island news wise and in the
real estate business. Because some of it involves considerable story I will
let a pro do this in part. Usually I write little stories about various
events on the island but this edition there will be minimal of that, in that
I would like you to visit the new island publication, which just put out its
first edition at the end of March. The Triatholon, Taste of Roatan, gorgeous
warm weather, (guess that’s not news), but for Roatan things have been
    hopping.

This newsletter you may wish to print or at least save in file. Eventually
as months go on, I will be deleting the older versions and eventually they
will go to newsletter heaven. I am mentioning that you may wish to have
reference to some of the links that I will list at the bottom in that they
will probably come in handy in the future.

-As Mentioned in a previous News Letter, The “Bay Islands Voice”, a new
English Speaking bimonthly publication has made it to the island. It is a
very welcome addition to the island and wish Thomas Tomczyk, (owner, editor,
one man show), all the success that he can possible have. The first edition
was well done and informative. It is what I would call “light news”. It has
no mention of the war in Iraq, problems that surround many places in the
world or politics. It is a publication that gives the “good news” items on
the island and after watching one too many hours of CNN or reading the
headlines of your local newspaper is just what you need to be a little
upbeat in life. I will place the link for the on line version below for you
to check out every couple of weeks.

-A new disco has opened on the island called “Red Planet”. It is located
near French Harbor and apparently opened to quite a crowd. Although I can
not personally vouch for it in that we are not of a “disco” frame of mind, I
thought I would announce it for those that are.

-A couple editions ago I had announced that I would no longer place photos
in this email addition, in that my web master had advised against it in that
many computers pick the attachment up nowadays and reject the entire news
letter thinking I am passing a virus. I have heard from some saying that
they miss them and liked the photos of the island. I over the years have
generated quite a collection of them, so figure in an attempt to keep every
one satisfied, I will place a couple or so on the web version of this news
    letter for people to
look at if they like. A few days after this mail, those who wish glimpses of
the island will be able to get new photos with each months newsletter
    edition on the
    www.roatan-realestate.com web page.

-It seems that the airlines war here between TACA and SOL AIR has heated up,
and for the consumer and those who travel to the island are the
beneficiaries to a great degree with air fare going under $200 promotionally
to San Pedro Sula and a little above that for some of the direct flights to
the island. The below is a short article from the “Tiempo” a Spanish written
Honduran Newspaper that puts things in perspective a bit.
“Tegucigalpa, Sol Air denounced TACA yesterday for using dirty tactics to
eliminate their service to Miami, because Sol Air charges lower fares...

Sol Air president, Ricardo Martinez, that upon startup Solair set a price of
399.00 (plus taxes) for round trip, without penalty for date changes, which
forced TACA to meet those prices from their then prices of over 500.00
dollars to the same destinations according to travel season.

Martinez said Sol Air had set the 399.00 price until June 2003, but to their
surprise, TACA lowered prices to Miami to 209.00 (plus taxes), which force
Sol Air to match prices. Martinez states that seemingly this "price war" is
beneficial to passengers, who do not realize that the purpose of this "war"
    is to eliminate Sol Air's
competition. The price war is a predatory as such prices do not cover
    necessary expenses
profit. This is clear indication of a policy of "extermination of Sol Air" ,
    as
their excessive lowering of tariffs is only meant to drive us out the
market. Martinez stated that a year ago, Hondurans could not travel to Miami
    for
less than 50.00 (plus taxes) and never had prices to Miami been close to the
209.00 price for a round trip fares. The purpose of driving Sol Air out of
the market, is because Sol Air, has lower costs than their costs. Upon the
demise of Sol Air, American, TACA will reduce their schedules, ad stops (en
route to Miami, like connection al
El Salvador) and raise their tariffs., to the detriment of Hondurans.
American controls 50pc of the Miami traffic and TACA and Sol Air spit the
    other 50pc.

    Written by Fredy Perdomo,

Additionally: TACA threatened Honduran travel agents to withhold commissions
for air sales, presently TACA offers unusual incentives in order to kill Sol
    Air.

I guess the bottom line is if you are planning a trip to the island this may
be a very good time to do it. Booking this summer will give you the lower
rates for your stay in most hotels
on the island and with lower prices to get here also, it seems to be a
win/win for all your Roatan bound people.

Do you travel to Roatan often or plan on doing it often? They are now
offering a new Lifetime Pass for only $5,000.00. They are offering only 40
of these. Eleven RT tickets and you are free from that point. If you have
any interst please contact Victoria Collins , SOL representative on the
    island at ivy_ida2000.....com
-Do not like to fly? Well there are now several options for Cruise Ship
visits here which have become more plentiful on the island. Norwegian Cruise
lines have been coming here for several years now. Carnival is now a regular
    weekly visitor and now “Celebrity”
has announced there intentions to visit our little island. There is a link
below with the others announcing this and getting you to the information
    site regarding their cruises.

-Between the airlines heating up and the cruise ships discovering our beauty
it may be an excellent time to consider a real estate investment. The island
is just so big. As the number travelers increase the real estate prices will
increase also. Simple stuff-supply and demand. What are you doing this
    summer?

That is it for this month folks- For those who are regular visitors here we
hope to see you soon. For those sitting from afar wondering about this
little island of enchantment, wonder no longer. It has so much to offer.
Caribbean Islands are not that plentiful. Eliminate the ones that are not
affordable, do not have an international airport, in safe, friendly
    countries,
and it sure narrows it down. If you wish either a great investment, (stocks
are barely promising), a place to ponder retirement, (before the rest of the
baby boomers), or just a great place to visit you need to try out Roatan.

Keep our fighting troops in your thoughts and prayers and Nancy and I wish
you all a very Happy Easter Holiday.
