Dear Group,
Below is a message from Emilio Mayorga, who is working with Derek Parent to develop interactive ecological maps. They are looking for volunteers who have programming or GIS experience. The initial message is below along with their website, where you can also sign up for the discussion list.
My understanding is everything possible will be released to the public domain, as long as the datasets aren't from copyrighted sources.
Best, Steve www.roatanet.com - Visitors Guide to Roatan and the Bay Islands I wanted to mention that Derek and I have taken initial steps to allow CAEE to provide dynamic maps generation and associated information on our web site. As you know, mapping has been an element of CAEE since the beginning.
If you have considerable technical skills in GIS, automated metadata processing, Java/Javascript/PHP/CSS, or relational databases, please consider joining our efforts. We have created a subdomain at http://geo.garrobo.org to organize our efforts. Right now there is very little there; we expect that it will take us a few months to get something usable ready. Eventually, this will be the web site hosting the mapping applications.
In a few months we hope to have ready a few mapping applications, and to have the ability to easily create new ones proposed by others in the group -- as long as you provide the datasets, if we don't have them!
*The map server will generate user-selectable maps of various ecological and environmental themes chosen by the user.
Saludos,
Emilio
