    Hi group,
Can anyone give me some information on how I can get my brother (He lives i=
    n
French Harbour ) here to visit our father. They have never seen each other
and it would be a great surprise to our Dad if I could get it done. I don'=
    t
know where to start, what to apply for, etc. How do I contact the 'right'
people to get the ball rolling? Thanks to all for any help.

We are planning a trip and I went to Sol Air's web site
http://solair.net/fares.asp to see their current prices. They are running
specials on most of thier flights. But the one I want DFW (Dallas) to RTB
(Roatan) is $549.00. I was under the impression from emails I have read
from this group that Sol and TACA were in a price war over this and the
Miami flights. Anyone know if Sol plans to offer the lower prices on this
    flight again?

    Thanks
    Dave

    Hi Dave,

I just purchased a ticket today from TACA directly at the Roatan airport fo=
    r
my daughter to fly down in June for 2 weeks. Total price, including tax,
    $483. Dallas/Roatan/Dallas

The ticket is what they call pre-paid. I pay for it here but it is issued
in the States at DFW saving me from the 12 % Honduran tax.

When she checked the computer the first time it was $1074.

The second time, 3 minutes later, it was $697 and then after another short
break, $483 and I bought it.

When you get to the island, come by our orphanage in Sandy Bay, or our
satellite internet caf=E9, "The King's Caf=E9', in West End and say hi.

    David,

I am not sure about DFW/RTB specifically. Today's Wall Street
Journal had an article about the "end of price bargains" from the
    airlines.

    Several factors:
    1. With Iraq settling down, people are beginning to book again.
    2. The airlines have pared back so hard that 'seats available' have
dropped measurably. The airlines have dropped tons of flights.
    3. Folks are beginning to jump in on the bargains, driving up
    prices.

I walked away from the article with the impression that we have seen
the bottom on ticket prices in general.

FWIW, I would book at the $549 and run. That is the surest way I
know to make sure prices drop - - right after I book.

HONDURAS TOURIST VISA & RESIDENCY INFORMATION
When you enter Honduras, you will receive a slip of paper in your passport.
This is a tourist visa, and is valid for 30 days. If you stay beyond 30
days, you will need to renew your tourist visa at the Immigration office.
The tourist visa can only be renewed 6 times; at that point you must leave
the country, although you can return almost immediately.

Tourists are not allowed to work. To legally work, or to legally stay beyon=
    d
six months, you must apply for Residency.

In order to qualify for residency, you must qualify for one of the Residenc=
    y
classes. These include Pension Residents, Employees, Immediate Family of
    Hondurans, and Investor.

There are some basic requirements that are applicable for all Residencies.
You need a birth certificate, police report, and marriage certificate (if =
    a
couple is applying based on the status of one spouse). These documents must
be authenticated at a Honduran Consulate in the country of origin. Contact
your nearest Consulate for more information on their authentication
    procedures.

If you are applying as a Pension Resident, you also need a document that
proves your pension-type income. An Employee needs a notarized job offer
from a Honduran Company that is at least 2 years old. If you are applying a=
    s
a relative of a Honduran, you need to document that relationship.

Costs vary depending on the Residency class, but there will be
authentication fees at the Consulate, a filing fee in Honduras, and legal
fees (the process requires a lawyer).

These requirements change occasionally, so please check with your lawyer
before starting the costly authentication process.

MINI GUIDE - SANTA ROSA DE COP=C1N

Location: Santa Rosa de Cop=E1n is located in the heart of mountainous west=
    ern
Honduras, nearly equidistant between the cities of San Pedro Sula and
Guatemala City. Its altitude of 1,200 meters (3,900 feet) gives Santa Rosa
an ideal spring like climate almost year round.

Local History: The history of Santa Rosa de Cop=E1n begins in 1765, when th=
    e
Spanish colonial authorities established the "Real Factor=EDa de Tabaco"
(royal tobacco trading post) at what is now Santa Rosa. By providing seed
and implements for the cultivation of tobacco and a reliable market for it=
    s
purchase, the Spanish crown stimulated the cultivation of tobacco and
production of cigars in the area, and the settlement of the region. Tobacco
cultivation and cigar production continue to be important today, although
in recent years coffee and commerce has become the region's major economic
    activities.

Subject: Re: Sol Air DFW to RTB price increase

Sol Air's price for the Dallas-Roatan flight has always been $100 more than
the Miami-Roatan flight. They recently increased both of these fares by $50=
    ,
    making the new fares DFW-RTB $549 and MIA-RTB $449. ... BUT ... I
recently booked a May/June flight MIA-RTB for $329 RT. This was good for
travel through the end of June.
The Sol Air website fares table was a little confusing and I was prepared t=
    o
pay a higher fare. I ended up calling them directly. To find out the exact
price for your travel dates, I would suggest calling Sol Air directly. I
found them helpful and extemely pleasant to deal with.
Sol Air - Tel (toll free) 866-476-5247

Personally, I am willing to pay a few dollars more to support Taca's
competition. Taca controls too much of Central American travel now and, too
    often, the traveler suffers.

    Good Luck!
