Dear Chipaustin, I don´t know what the US National Health Department says, but the german Institute for Tropical Medicin doesn´t recommend taking prophylaxis for most of the central american countrys. The Malaria risk for the Bay Islands is rather low (There is a risk of cause).
I think it is wise to take malaria medication with you for the case of catching a malaria and be careful with biting insects (Moskitonet, Long sleeved clothes in the evening ours etc.)
For me personal there is no reason to take prophylaxis in the Bay Islands. But YOU should talk with a doctor specialised for tropical medicine and ask for advice.
EVERYBODY IS RESPONSIBEL FOR HIS OWN HEALTH!
