Dear Chipaustin, I don´t know what the US National Health Department says, but the german Institute for Tropical Medicin doesn´t recommend taking prophylaxis for most of the central american countrys. The Malaria risk for the Bay Islands is rather low (There is a risk of cause). I think it is wise to take malaria medication with you for the case of catching a malaria and be careful with biting insects (Moskitonet, Long sleeved clothes in the evening ours etc.) For me personal there is no reason to take prophylaxis in the Bay Islands.
