Best grocery store-or largest one-- is Eldons in French Harbor--but that's
not near West End. Down there you'd go to Woody's--small, but has some
things--or into Coxen Hole to Warren's--larger-- with most things -- just
not as usually as well stocked as Eldons. Cost is similar in all of them.
Groceries here are more expensive than stateside--more like 7/11 store
    prices.

A hint: Don't go cheap when buying meat--wash all veggies--also buy bottled
water to drink and/or at least ask about your tap water.

Diving costs about the same around the island. More dives -- sold in
packages of several -- are cheaper. There are tons of dive shops and tons of
people with good/bad to say about each. Larger resorts tend to have more
people per boat--but also may have more experienced dive staff, better
serviced compressors to fill tanks and chamber use available --just in case.
A filled 20 person dive boat is still quite rare around here I'd think.

Do some East End diving if you can--is more pristine.

Assume nothing when diving -- any place in the world -- any time -- and
    you'll do fine.

With dives in the $25 range or less, Roatan is a VERY inexpensive place to
    dive.

If you're mostly diving, a day rental one day auto to see a bit of the
island and grocery shop is maybe all you'll need. Or, if you're Ok with a
bit of Spanish, a taxi may work out too. Is always best to know where
you're going when you get in a taxi. Not all taxi drivers know how to get to
all places -- though they may say they do.

    A hint:
Walking the highway after dark alone is NOT a good idea.

Dive safe! If you mess up, there are recompression chambers at AKR and
    Fantasy Island resorts.

Subject: [roatan] Reccomendations for apartment/house in Roatan - West
    coast
    Hi,
My wife and I are thinking of going down to Roatan in September, and
are planning on renting an apartment or house. Probably in the West
Bay/West End/Sandy Bay area. I would like to hear some
reccommendations, as there are so many to choose from.

Would you reccommend renting a car down there? We're going primarily
    to dive.

What are grocery prices like? Where is the best place to shop for
    groveries?

    Thanks,

    Darryl
