Forget larium - its a state department recommended drug also but essentially
USA is not as experienced as other places when it comes to Malaria - Larium can
have serious side effects - hallucinatory and others - I seen its side effects
on people taking it in Africa. I have had malaria over a dozen times because I
lived in Africa over 14 years and you can't continually take preventative
    drugs.

There was an earlier response suggesting chloroquine tablets and thats the way
you should go. There is another drug called paludrine (proguanil
hyrochloride)from Zeneca which would also be suitable. not sure if available in
    the States.

You would really have to stiff to get malaria in Roatan.

    Have a great holiday
