Hi Valerie. I think you'll find the West End community to be similar to San Pedro Town. You can easily walk every where or take a water taxi to West Bay. You will find accommodations equal to Ramone's in both places - West End and West Bay. West End being more of a community with grocery stores, mini-mart, dive shops, bars, restaurants, beach/snorkeling. West Bay is primarily the beach (a very beautiful stretch of white sand with excellent snorkeling) as well as a few restaurants, a few dive shops, a mini-mart and quite a selection of more upscale accommodations, almost all of which walk right out onto the beach. If you enjoy snorkeling, you will find that you can easily go from shore just about any place (for free!) - unlike Ambergris Caye, where you pretty much have to arrange a half or full day snorkel tour to get out to the reef. On Roatan, the reef is very close to shore and in many places, an easy swim. You might check the website of this discussion list for accommodations - http://www.roatanet.com/accom.htm A couple of places to consider in West End that may be similar (but different) to Ramone's might be: (all have hammocks and look out to the sea) Seagrape Plantation Resort: http://www.seagraperoatan.com/ (All cabins here have A/C, hot water, and a small fridge and hammocks on your porch overlooking the sea.) Posada Arco Iris: http://www.roatanet.com/posada_f.htm (Offers small efficiencies, porches with hammocks and you are located across from the beach at Half Moon Bay.) Lost Paradise: http://www.lost-paradise.com/default.htm (They offer cabins on their own private stretch of beach.) Everything is West End is within easy walking distance - easier and closer than Ramone's was to the center of San Pedro Town (if think ... it's been a while since we were there, but when we were, we stayed just a couple of places beyond Ramones. As a matter of fact, I learned to snorkel in that area at the end of Ramone's dock.)
