August and September are our hottest months on Roatan. Those of us without
air conditioning have been a bit uncomfortable… ok downright
uncomfortable…but you must take the bad with the good, as the old saying
goes. If you’re uncomfortable, there’s a whole beautiful deep blue and
turquoise ocean in which to jump to cool off and for those lucky enough to
have a swimming pool, there’s that option as well. Can’t do too much
complaining when you live on one of the most beautiful islands in the
western Caribbean. We have had a few great storms to cool things off a bit
and the lightening shows over the mainland have been spectacular at night.
    Cooler days are coming!

For those of you who might be planning a trip to Roatan in October, we
wanted to let you know that we are taking a wonderful vacation ourselves
during that month. Of course, we will make sure that you are well taken
care of by our commander-in-chief of Roatan-Real Estate, Larry Schlesser.
You will be in good hands with him and will benefit from his wealth of
knowledge. But getting back to our trip…we are traveling to Seoul, South
Korea, to see Kathi’s son who is stationed in Inchon as a medical
specialist. We’re really looking forward to seeing this part of the world
and hopefully can visit other places as well. Korea is a bit of a hot spot
right now and we hope things are worked out amicably between all our
nations. We will be gone from October 4th and returning to the island on
the 24th. Can’t say we’re looking forward to that long plane ride so we’ve
been ordering from Amazon.com to keep us from going crazy inside the plane!
Again, rest assured that if you have planned a trip to Roatan during the
time that we will be off the island, we will make arrangements with Larry
for all your real estate needs.

We have been experiencing quite a few problems here with our internet
connection in the last two weeks. There have been times when our server has
been totally down, then others when we might be able to send out emails but
not receive and vice versa. At one time we downloaded email that was dated
seven and eight days prior! So, please, if you send us an email, don’t
assume that we have received it unless you receive a reply back from us.
Recently, some people were referred to us, came to the island and found our
home. Our neighbor saw them and they said that they had emailed us and
wanted to see some property; however, they did not receive a reply back from
us . We were on the mainland at the time and it’s unfortunate that we never
did connect with these people because we had never received their email. So
again, please don’t assume emails are received here without our reply back
    to you.

In our last newsletter, we mentioned that Temptation Island was going to air
on August 28th. Sorry to say that we didn’t enjoy it, but then again, we’re
not into that type of programming. We’re hoping at some point they mention
“Roatan”. In the first episode, there was no mention of the island and
other than the “Anthony’s Key” boat and names of Luna Beach and Palmetto
Bay, who would know?? By the way, we didn’t catch the second episode…maybe
    we’ll try the third!
The cruise ships are coming, the cruise ships are coming. Word has it we’ll
have five a week in October and more after that in the months to follow. So
things will really be hopping on the island. Some new improvements are
being made to beautify Coxen Hole…namely concrete fencework up and down the
main streets. It looks like it will be ready by October and hopefully so
will the roads through Coxen Hole. Right now, they’re tearing up the
streets to replace the pipes for the new sewer project which seems to be
    moving right along.

Sales are increasing even though this is typically a slow time of the year.
Of course with increased sales come increased prices as well. This is good
for those lucky folks who have purchased here previously, but for those who
haven’t, now’s the time to do it. We’re not at Grand Cayman prices yet and
we’re still affordable, but property owners are experiencing very good
appreciation on their investments here on the island.
Great places to stay…Posada Arco Iris in West End. They have great rooms
with or without air conditioning with reasonable prices and have a wonderful
restaurant on premises; West Bay Village in, of course, West Bay, contact
Claudio & Emiliana at lascupulas.....hn; and Coral Beach Inn, a
fabulous B&B mid-island in First Bight, contact Sandy or Waylon at
    cbeachinn.....com.

Great new properties for sale on the island:

On the road to Palmetto Bay sit 20 impressive ¾ acre lots with some of the
best views on the island. Looking toward the turquoise waters at the reef,
these lots have power, Artesian well water and direct road access. The
lots are sloped and we have plans for a wonderful home that would fit right
into the hillside. These lots are priced at $40,000.

Between West End and West Bay are two houses sitting on a half acre of bluff
over beach with 50 feet of water frontage. The front house is a two bedroom,
two bath with kitchen/living room (great room), decks on all 4 sides. This
house was recently updated and comes completely furnished. At the rear of
the property sits another smaller one bedroom, one bath home also with decks
on all 4 sides. Both houses share the septic system, a well and cistern and
have spectacular views of the sunset. The property includes a shared dock
with another house. Priced at $202,000 for both houses.

Half acre lot near Milton Bight with views of both sides of the island.
Road access and power to the lot. Wonderful breezes, spectacular views of
the mainland to the south and turquoise waters of the reef to the north. A
    steal at $35,000.

If you would like more information about these or other properties currently
available on the island, please don’t hesitate to contact us.

    We’ll chat again next month!
