The more options for evac the better. I'd be interested in hearing the quote. If you would rather tap into a service that is in place, DAN Travel Assist insurance includes med evac for a very reasonable price. Depending upon the level of your DAN plan (which changes the benefits for diving/snorkeling accidents), the cost is between $25-70 for the year. They bring a plane from Miami with EMT's on board. We had the misfortune to actually test the service, & I can say with great confidence that it works wonderfully! And as a follow-up, I have also worked with them on processing the claims after using a whole variety of services, & the people are helpful & easy to work with. They offer emergency service to evacuate you via fully equipped medical jet from the island to the states or Canada with medical personnel aboard, for visitors, part time residents and expatriates. It is sort of an insurance policy. They yearly fees are very low in consideration of the fact that if you did need to be air lifted from the island, it would cost in excess of $15,000 - $20,000. If you are interested, please email me off list. The more people that are interested, the better rate we will be able to get. I also need to get some idea of how many would participate in order for the sales manager to come to the island to give a presentation here. Individual and family rates are available. I am not an agent for Medjet, but being a nurse and knowing the importance of a rapid response for catastrophic medical emergencies, I feel that this is a very valuable and needed service.
