Just a quick note, the DAN insurance is only available
to DAN members and only covers "in water" accidents.
MEDJET is essentially for medical emergencies of all
kinds and is geared toward those wanting either short
term to cover a trip or long term residents on the
island, the ex-partiates who are not divers or do not
have dive insurance. You can check the short term
rates by going to the MEDJET web-site,
www.medjetassistance.com. It is not cheap, but in the
long run, if you have no insurance coverage for
emergency evac., it is worth every penny if you need
to use the service. Most "traditional" health
insurance policies do not cover transportation from a
foreign country. It also covers the necessity of
having to transport your remains, should one pass on
while here on the island as well as one person to
accompany the ill person or the remains. The jets
would either be dispatched from Mexico City or Texas
with full emergency medical personel aboard. There
are no claims to file with your insurance company.
DAN is actually a sceondary policy and your primary
insurance carrier is billed first. MEDJET is an
independant service. It does cover transportation to
the jet and from the jet to the hospital of your
choice. Here are a few points from the program
    highlights:

    * Provides evac. and transportation services to the
hospital of your choice anywhere in the world.
*No limit to it's benifits. (Exception - 2 evacs. per
    year)
    *No pre-existing conditions.
*No health questions, claim forms or deductables

If you choose a yearly membership rather than short
term, 7,14,21 days, it will also cover those of you in
the states when you need to be transported from one
hospital to another for specialized care. The family
rates cover your spouse and up to 5 dependant
    children.

The web-site states that a person must be at least 150
miles from their home, but they are making an
exception for those of us that live on the island as
long as you are a U.S. or Canadian citizen. The sales
director is tailoring a special policy to cover the
needs of the ex-pats on the island. He is also
looking into providing the service to the Hondurans on
the island that might be interesed.

Please pass this info. on to anyone that you feel
might be interested and have them contact me. The
more people we can get, the better the rate we will be
able to secure. Usually you need a group of 50 or
more extended stay persons to qualify for a group
    rate.
