Ok, I guess I can stop reading Temptation Island transcripts long
enough to field some real legal questions. But it is a holiday
today, so I'm charging double time.

Wanna hear a Honduran lawyer joke? How are lawyers and platanos the
    same?

You hardly ever see a straight one!

ha ha ha, I can laugh, I don't ever have to look for a lawyer again.

To introduce myself, I am Melanie Wetzel, originally from Kansas,
graduate of the National Autonomous University of Honduras, and
practicing Honduran lawyer. Oh, yes, and one of the rare straight
    ones.

Also, to address some of the posts that came through a few weeks
ago, I hope that it goes without saying that the people who hate
their lawyers are not my clients. I know for a fact that all of my
clients love me. I used to say that I knew for a fact that 98% of
my clients love me, due to the fact that one poor client had some
unfortunate delays and cost-increases, and might have held that
against me (even though it wasn't my fault). But just the other day
I got a new client who said that Mr. Unfortunate had recommended me
with high praise, so . . . I think that makes it 100%.

I do often have to turn away new business, and I'm sure that doesn't
make anyone very happy, but it is just part of managing my client
list (which I like to keep small).

On my website, I maintain an archive of articles that were written
for Honduras This Week in 1998-2001. They are obviously somewhat
outdated, but they still offer some good advice and overview of
Honduran Legal Systems. And they will give you something to read
while you're waiting for me to answer your email, ha ha ha. Ok, I
    know it's not funny.

I'm hoping to soon update the articles and give some more concrete
information on the web site about common issues, like Residency,
Real Estate, Taxes, etc. and also some tools for chosing a lawyer.

Until then, feel free to contact me through my email, or at Batres Y
Asociados, the firm where I work in Tegucigalpa. Phone 236-9974 or
fax 236-6872 (be prepared for Spanish speaking secretaries). It can
be a bit tough to get a hold of me, but if all else fails, I never
    ignore a third email.

    Regards,

    Melanie Wetzel
