Honduras' government will unveil Monday (Sept.22) plans to partially liberalize the telecom sector and end the monopoly of state-owned incumbent Hondutel, according to US consulting firm Pyramid Research.
The government expects new operators to activate within one year 150,000 fixed lines in remote rural areas where Hondutel does not operate, adding 45% more lines to the 334,000 operating today, Pyramid analyst Dennis Burke said in a report. >From 2005, the market will be fully liberalized and the rival operators will be able to move into Hondutel's operating area...
