I never like to disagree with Steve but on this matter I must comment. I am not completely sure of Honduran law regarding the removal of fish from the island but when doing research could find no references that said it was illegal. I did my research about 3 years ago so there may be laws in place. If anyone has any hard facts on this please let me know.
In regards to the US policy on bringing fish in to the country there are no laws that prohibit you from bringing in fish. I contacted MANY agencies and was bounced around to many people at each agency. None could find any law. At the time I was collecting eels for my home aquarium and wanted to see about the possibility of bringing back any that I found....in pet stores not the ocean. I never did bring any back because thought there were no laws preventing me from bringing them in they said I would more than likely be detained.....and I can't say I really like being detained :) . I did however carry a number of emails and letters I received from the various agencies just in case I did decide to bring any back.
Again this research was done about three years ago so rules may have changed. If anyone has any info I would love to see it
Thanks Dave

Under no circumstances will you be able to bring live marine fish from Roatan. If you are caught leaving Honduras with them, you may have trouble. If you are caught entering the US with them, you will definitely have trouble. Also, people on Roatan prefer to leave the reef fish there where they can multiply and others can enjoy them.
Sorry, but have a great vacation!
