Rasha -
If you haven't already left for Roatan!!!!!!!!!!!!!
You may find cash easier to deal with, albiet riskier.
If you take traveler's checks take your receipts as well as the bank may ask for then to prove you were in fact the purchaser. If you take cash make sure your U.S. bank gives you really pretty bills (bills with nicks, tears, corners missing and the like are tough to pass in foreign exchange).
The exchange rate is a bit better than 17.5 Lempira to one dollar. Exchange at a bank to get the best rate (some hotels will exchange for you as low as 15 to 1 and a bank should not give you a counterfeit bill) and pay in Lempira. With souvenirs, and especially taxis, negotiate the price.
Most hotels take your credit card. Many will surcharge you for accepting them up to 12 percent, this is on top of the 16 percent sales tax and, when you get home you'll find your credit card company has added another three percent as well.
Rainy season usually is October, November and December. You should find plenty of sun.
Have fun.
