No seeums or sand flies are out during all daylight hours. Very uncommon at
night. Not too bad in towns. Worst near beaches or moist areas. A large
percentage of residents grow "immune" to the bites, in the sense that they
don't itch or itch only for a few minutes. This happens after weeks and
    weeks, not days.

Others use their favorite bug repellent. I personally find only DEET works,
but even 15% (Orange kind) is almost 100% effective for a few hours. I
find family style (7%) and below to not be effective. It does, however,
seem to vary by individual, and some seem not to need DEET, using locally
available cactus juice or Avon skin so soft.
