What product do you buy that has 100% deet?
Here's a remedy discovered by accident but it works --
"Desitin Creamy" which is essentially a zinc oxide diaper rash ointment. It is not advertised for this purpose but it does work. It provides a protective coating over the skin. The downside is that it is not exactly easy to remove and not very attractive but it is waterproof and nothing will bite you and your friends may become a bit distant.

I just got back from Roatan about a week ago and can attest to the vicious nasty little buggers quite well. Apparently though, there are some lucky folk out there who are not bothered by them.
The mosquitos are, to me anyway, secondary to the evil sand flies. They are out all day, morning to just about sunset and will chow on people incessantly. Yes, midday sunning on the beach, you will get eaten alive. I didn't have a problem with them indoors (seemed like the only safe haven), but they are other places other than just the beach. There was a viewing deck above where I was staying, about 15 ft. or so up from the ground, and they make their way up that high too.
For me it was a constant slathering in bug spray. I know bathing in 100% DEET sounds like no fun, but if you don't keep the bug spray coming, you'll be miserable later. I had 100% DEET, which ran out quick, but it worked. I also had Off with only 7% and it sorta worked. Some people swear by the Cactus Juice, but others say it doesn't work for them. Someone there used Skin So Soft and it seemed to work, but not for the mosquitos oddly enough.
I must say I was quite paranoid about the sand flies, and with good reason as I found out. Just do your best at protecting yourself and you'll survive. If you do get bit, don't scratch. And I found toothpaste helped the bites for one night.
