I always use American Express checks and they've never been refused by hotels, restaurants, or stores. But, I've never tried to cash one at the bank. Rose M. For those people who are coming down here, I recommend you don't bring them, as the locals seemed to think standing in line for hours at the bank was pretty normal. And if you MUST bring travellers checks, be sure they are American Express and be prepared for quite a long wait at the bank.
