Our recent trip to Roatan, we didn't take alot cash, as we were advised not to, we stayed at Anthoneys Key, they won't cash checks or advance money on visa debit or credit cards, we soon ran out cash, had to pay taxi $10 (bus was also $10) to go to nearest bank & stand in line 3 hours and wait, this was the only time we got to go to town, the rest of the time we were stuck at our resort even on rainy days, when we go back we will cary enough cash, & we did feel safe , when we were at bank the taxi driver stayed in sight, he was very helpful, best $10 we spent there, would be great place to shop.

Try buying something small at grocery stores and taking change--Warren's and
Eldons will usually cash them. But make SURE signature matches and you have
good I.D. Do the signing and filling out ONLY after they agree to take them
and let them instruct you as to how they want it done.
Or you can stay here--we take them and/or cash them for our folks.
But it's GOTTA be American Express!!!

Subject: [roatan] Travellers Checks - where to cash?
I spent FOUR HOURS standing in line at the bank today (the one up the street
from Warren's in Coxen Hole) only to find they refused to cash my VISA
travellers checks! Does anyone know of a bank that will cash them?? For
those people who are coming down here, I recommend you don't bring them, as
the locals seemed to think standing in line for hours at the bank was pretty
normal.
And if you MUST bring travellers checks, be sure they are American Express
and be prepared for quite a long wait at the bank.
Thanks
