It's true that crime is on the rise and has been for a long time. The murders of a couple of ex-pats, one in Pollytilly and the other in Port Royal were kind of forgotten and I don't believe anyone was apprehended for either. The recent outbreaks are supposedly being committed by non-islanders (mainlanders) and are drug related. The easiest pickings are the ex-pats of course. They are the ones who appear to have the most money and possessions. The poor islanders sometimes experience violent crime but it's mostly domestic stuff, not robbery, rape, breakins, or just rage. As I said before, the authorities have not done anything about it and continue to ignore it. The official who went all the way to Port Royal is an exception, in my opinion. There isn't enough of a security force with resources (some security even uses bicycles in Coxen Hole). Too few officers with the right equipment, etc. For now, I don't foresee any changes coming. It's back to the old adage, be watchful, ever watchful, and if the time comes, be prepared. If it's a gun that's necessary, so be it. Until the officials on the mainland get involved, it's going to continue and just get worse. Oh, and the local officials? They're too interested in getting theirs to worry about it for right now. Ladies and gentlemen, Roatan is changing. Rick
