The crime on Roatan, in my opinion, is not like everywhere else except the moon. It's real, it's here, and it's growing. It's not a scare tactic to keep people from investing, living on Roatan, or to keep the tourism down. If it is, why have so many people hired and continue to hire "watchies" to keep an eye on their homes at night and sometimes during the day? Why all the pit bulls, barking dogs, etc. Why do almost all of the hostels in West End have someone pulling "guard duty" beginning just before sundown until the morning? Come on, let's face it. What we have here is a big problem, and it needs to be taken care of quickly before it really gets out of hand. I've said it before and I'll say it again, it will take drastic measures by the top government officials to curb it. The locals know what's going on, and I know for a fact that a lot of them don't go out at night, they know better. And what about Marco was assaulted several times in his first 3 months living on the island. A couple of broken ribs and a split eyelid as I remember it. It's true, crime is all over the world, but the per capita numbers would be alarming if all events were to be reported. I'd say it's time for all parties to get together and come up with some strong political pressure to get something done. Otherwise, it's every man to himself and then??? Rick
