    Halli-

I am planning to vacation in Roatan this April. I have purchased tickets and will follow through with my plans. I will be more careful, though. The expats who monitor this board are rightfully seriously concerned and rallying right now. I support them and would sign a petition or send a letter if it will help.

I think there is a difference in scale from the armed burglars who look to get several hundred dollars worth of merchandise from a house. Mugging a tourist is more risky (public) and would net less $$, I think.

Although there are no guarantees, I am operating under the assumption that most of the tourist areas I will visit regularly will be safe, but I will not be carrying valuables with me. And work with local drivers I trust for transportation.

Just some thoughts, obviously not authoritative.

    Hi!
I have been following the Roatan message board for the past year.
Besides the mention of petty theft I am shocked to have learned about
the recent crimes occurring on Roatan. I spent March 2004 on Roatan
and had one of the best and safest vacations of my life. There is
not one complaint that I could tell you about. In fact I had such a
great time I have decided to come back again this March. But now I
am a bit concerned, should I be? I completely understand that
nothing is ever the same from one day to another however is this
really as serious as it sounds from the message board. Those of you
who in my opinion are so fortunate to have a beautiful island to live
on, would you spend your vacation on Roatan or would you make other
    plans?
    Thanks!
    Halli
