Dear Halli, I wouldn't hesitate to visit Roatan if I were you, as it is a very beautiful Ilsand. I would like several others have said just pick carefully the places to visit and stay. I personally don't live in Roatan full-time, but live there part- time, and have alway's felt safe there. I own 2 condos at the Mayan Princess Resort on West Bay Beach, and it is very well guarded and patrolled and there are alot of other places there that are well patrolled and safe. I spent 7 months in 2004 in Roatan(most of the time by myself putting a business together,) and I NEVER for one minute felt afraid or unsafe living there by myself. I sympathize with what is going on and hope we get a handle on it, but it is true that there is crime everywhere you go. I still feel that for the most part, Roatan is a safe Island, but like all countries, cities and places you go there are safe and unsafe areas. I have several times given 100 lps. to the guards and road blocks and we need to get more areas patrolled this way and just consider it our toll charge I guess. I hope you and others still come to Roatan and visit this georgous paradise, and aren't frightened off. Judy
