Subject: [roatan] Points For The Meeting Regarding Crime on Roatan/Meeting

    Hi, Rick.

That's the spirit and motivation you are going to need to keep this effort going and regain tranquility and peace. And the value of your business and your property. Lets keep the ball rolling. Like we say back home... No Pierdan El Impulso!

Use all resources available to you. I'm sure the politicians are beginning to pay attention. I encourage someone to volunteer and take the first step in typing up a short simple, but rather detailed letter and therefore collect signatures from all concerned participants.

You might also want to involve your employees, after-all their livelihood is also at stake. Get as many signatures as you can and then send copies of this letter attached with the signatures you have collected to the chief of police, the governor of the island, the ministers, president of the country and any one else whom you feel have power to voice your concerns for safety.

I would also recommend that you invite ministers and pastors of all your local churches. And get the entire island motivated in this grass root effort if you have to. Perhaps during these meetings you might even want to plan a "peaceful march against crime." Therefore showing the criminals that you are in solidarity and are no longer going to tolerate their abuses... you will indeed be showing them that you and your local officials are united in quelling their ability to disrupt your peaceful way of life. "The powers that be" would then realize, perhaps the need for a more dedicated, honest and stronger police force... or maybe even a short military display. I don't sincerely believe "a lone policeman on a bicycle tactic" alone is a deterrent to any gang member with a loaded weapon.

Remember folks several months ago, it took one 'marine' only one men in uniform to ask Mr. Rumsfeld the question concerning the lack of Armour in Iraq and now their safety is considered and taken with far greater account than previously seen.

A school, a church, or a hotel could be a good place to start. Not sure if there is a local library, or if a private business wants to volunteer their space in exchange for your patronage and support... (don't forget to tip your wait-staff). Nominate a leader and take action right away. This is not an issue to sleep on for too long, regardless of whom have yet to be mugged, assaulted, killed, or hurt.

    Muy buena suerte, amigos.

    Sabas

Not to belabor the point but has anyone got any ideas about how to get a meeting going to try to bring attention and political pressure to try to head off the continually increasing crimes rate?

Anyone out there that would care to spearhead the effort? Don Pearly says he can help and get some media coverage. Let's hear some ideas. Let's not forget about it and wait until the next time when it could be worse and give encouragement to the perpetrators.

    Anybody?
