I have visited Roatan extensively the past three years. Last year we purchased a house and adjacent beachfront at Sundancer in Sandy Bay. I have walked the beach and rocks from West End To West Bay several times. I have never had an issue or felt unsafe for a moment. Although the night of Feb 17 there were four gunshots around 4AM. We have yet to figure out what the shots were related to. Sundancer does have a guard patrolling the property all night long but I haven't received a report from him.
We have lived in Colleyville Texas a suburb of Dallas-Ft Worth for over 30 years and have never had a safety or theft issues although the last 10 years we have started locking our house when we weren't there.
I reckon we have been just plain lucky, because I can't say that we've been particularly crateful.
The recent postings disturb me, but will not deter me from returning and enjoying the beauty of Roatan. Hopefully the authorities will see the wisdom in improving safety for all.

Crime is scary, ecspecially armed ones.
Just an FYI I lived in Phoenix for 10 years and lived in two nice neighborhoods.
My house was broken into three times. I had 4 differnet car stereos stolen from my car in front of the house.
Unfortunately crime is everywhere.
