Ron,
I wonder about the same thing sometimes, I live in Washington DC, where at the same time as a couple of these incidents, there were a few murders, "home invasions," and numerous fatal car accidents, etc. Not to belittle either place's incidents as being more or less serious. When I hear of a person being robbed or murdered in Roatan, I am scared and appalled. When I hear of a person being robbed or murdered here I barely take notice. Why is that? Even when the incidents here in DC are way more often (reportedly) and closer geographically. I think that the smallness of the community there plays a role in people getting more easily "freaked out." Chances are you at least know a person who knows the person that was robbed. It makes it a lot more scary. I'd like to know which area is statistically safer...DC or Roatan. Just a thought.
