In 2002 there were 39 reported murders in Roatan, in 2002 there were 262 murders. Roatan population est. at the time 50,000 DC population est at the time. 600,000 (murder capital of america) That puts Roatan at 78 murders per 100,000 and 44 murders per 100,000 for DC. In 2002 you were almost 2 times more likely to be murdered in Roatan as you were in DC. Cant find any more recent numbers for Roatan. Don't kid yourself, Roatan is a dangerous place. I said it when I lived there, Ill say it now, the residents of Roatan need to get serious about security above all other issues.
