There is no risk in visiting the Roatan. Just use common sense and don't walk through Coxen Hole or the hill in French Harbour by yourself at night. Leave your valuables in the safe at the hotel. Drink responsibly when out and nothing should happen. I lived in Roatan for 6 years and was out and about all the time and nothing ever happened to me. Just an FYI I lived in Phoenix for 10 years and lived in two nice neighborhoods. My house was broken into three times. I had 4 differnet car stereos stolen from my car in front of the house.
