I agree with this, as I sort of suggested in my last post. There are some big players on the island that reap huge benefits from tourism, commerce and so forth. It makes sense that they can expect much more reward if security on the island was greatly improved.
Police equipment and training are essential. Better training, equipment, uniforms, vehicles and pay I think will go along way in improving security and pride among police officers. It will also send a message to criminals that they are dealing with serious professionals.
I suggest some sort of organization like a mini- fraternal order of police. Surely some of the bigger players on the island can sponser such an organization. It's a good way to solicit donations. Combine that with some local legislation to increase funding via tax and I would think some real progress can be realized. With better security, the island will attract higher end visitors which of course has its benefits.
Well that's my .02 good luck.

Don Pearly says he can help and get some media coverage. Let's hear some ideas. Let's not forget about it and wait until the next time when it could be worse and give encouragement to the perpetrators. > > Anybody? > > > ----------- > > - Helps protect you from nasty viruses. > > > > > > > > > > > > http://www.roatanet.com > > > > > > ----------- > > > To visit your group on the web, go to: > http://groups.yahoo.com/group/roatan/ > > > roatan- > > the Yahoo!
