After seeing this crime discussion for a couple of weeks, I would like to say first of all that comparing Hondurans to any part of the United States and putting statistics is definitely out of line., Having said that let's consider this, in Honduras there is barely a phone system that's worth a damn in my opinion - no 911, no 411 or anything else. A country that does not have an FBI, a CIA or a CSI, no SWAT teams, no nothing !!!! So imagine if we were criminals we would have a field day in Honduras. Now I guess the numbers come out even don't you think.
We should all be reading Honduran newspapers so we can take a look at what's really going on in the country. A country that has been compared to Haiti for crying out loud.
I have read some comments about giving money to the police on the streets to make them feel appreciated - that's good but I have a better idea. How about giving a couple of bucks to the guys who take care of the jails in La Ceiba so they can make the scum bags suffer inside. It's amazing the amount of uproar this crime situation has caused in this group. These kinds of things happen in Tegus for example every minute and I don't even want to discuss San Pedro Sula.
I hope investors or business people don't run and hide on things like this but if you do that's OK, I wouldn't want to be your neighbor when shit starts getting alittle dicey.
These problems have solutions. It's going to be difficult but it's acheiveable. Let's not put too many excuses and let's find a solution for Roatan sake, for Honduras sake and for everyones sake even if it comes down to basics like a 12-gauge
