I feel somehow that since nine eleven this is scratching on the soul
of many US-Americans. I can understand it somehow.
The United States have been an "island of security" at least regarding
    outside attaks ever since.
Now with nine eleven the unhurtable giant has become vulnerable at
    least in his mind.

Actually nine eleven was an undiscribable cruelty.
But on the other hand: terrorism was already arround. It was there
long time before nine eleven. Maybe it didnīt hurt the United States
that much before that date. But other countries have had to live with
suh problems since a long time. Have a look at Spain and the
basque region (ETA), north island, the german RAF Problem from late
1960īs to late 1980īs, Palestina/Israel, and much much more.

In fact terrorism was a risk at any time for uninvolved people
anywhere for a long time already. And in my opinion there is no
prevention against that despite awarness and conflict deescalation and
    conflict solution.
Every security network has holes which are big enough fanatic and
    prepared terrorists.

When US-President George Bush was in my home town Mainz, Germany. The
whole city stood still. No traffic, no workers in Mainz Downtown for
an whole day. Even the economy of the wider Rhein-Main Area
did work as it would be a bank holiday.
Mainz was a high security area with more than 10.000 german policmen
and about 1000 FBI and CIA security specialist arround.
the highways, the river Rhine, the Trainbridges where closed several
    hours.

    Did it help ?

For god sake nothing bad happened to George W Bush. Actually i think
it was because there was nobody there who really wanted to harm him.

    Proof ?
A small boat from a greanpeace activist crossed the closed rhineriver
under the bridge while the presidential limousine crossed the bridge.
Police did catch them a few minutes later, but if they would have had
terroristic plans and a bomb to bomb the theodor heuss bridge in the
moment when Bush crossed the road, nobody would have prevented that.

Another thought to this: Do you think the new security guidelines
after nine eleven what have helped anything against the nine eleven
terrorists ? Actually they donīt. Its a little harder, but far away
from impossible to bring a carpet cutter or even a plastic blasting
    agent into a aeroplane.

Finally: Roatan is not a symbol which does mean anything to Al-Qaeda
like the World-Trade Center Towers have been.
There is no honduran underground group (at least i am aware of none)
which is working against US-American or other ideas which could find a
sysmbol to destroy in Roatan. So the actual risk of a terroristic attack
is low. Of cause itīs not zero. But its never zero.

Angst is originally a german word. I fear that the american culture, which has a
great number of ideals and ideas which many humans in and outside
america share by there free will and which are probably the best
possible solution for leaving together on this planet, makes the
meaning of "Angst" part of there culture. I especially have fear that
"Angst" will destroy the great parts worth to follow
suitet(?)/emulated(?) of us-american culture and substitute them by
    "Angst" and "Angst"-Reactions.

Not having Angst is (imho) the base of the pursuit of happiness. So
donīt have Angst. But be aware and act appropriate against real risks.
But donīt overreact and enclose yourself.
This just will be followed by others fearing you and will develop and
atmosphere of Angst which makes the risk of bad things a lot higher.

Paradise (if there is any) means hard work to let it stay paradise.
Even (or even more) on a tropic island.

    just my two cents.

    kind regards

    Sven Zörner

R> I whole heartedly agree with you. For the past couple weeks we have had
R> people spouting off about the island and am tired of the negativity from the
R> "experts" many of which do not even live here.

R> There are plenty of things wrong here and there. Tell you one thing, the
R> chances of a terrorist attack here are all but none. Talk about living in
    R> fear.

R> Congrats also Phil on being elected to the National Realtors Assoc Board as
    R> Vice President.
