Hola - I just got back late Saturday night from Roatan - a female travelling solo and spending 2
weeks there. I NEVER HAD A PROBLEM - EVER. The people are lovely, gracious and even generous -
some locals who gave me rides wouldn't even accept money for gas. I bought Cactus Juice as soon as
I got there and didn't have too bad a time of it with bugs - plus it has 20 SPF - but I do think
it's a bit buggier than other places I've been, especially at sunset. I did sleep with the deck
door wide open and did not get bitten during the night though. I took other's advice and started on
B12 and Vitamin C before leaving and that probably helped. I often travelled around alone - going
to West End for dinner on my own and walking around after dark to shop - no problems. I snorkeled
with the divers almost every day - going out on the dive boats from Fantasy Island - they loved
every site they were taken to and even saw seahorses - and the videos taken by the resort video guy
are truly beautiful - even bought one myself. But I was the one who was truly blessed - everyone
was looking for the spotted eagle rays, and I simply jumped off the dive gazebo at the resort and
suddenly gliding beneath me on their way out to sea were 2 of them - it was magic. The weather was
fantastic too - really hot - and the water was like a bathtub. One of the divers measured 79.4F
below 60 feet. Trust me - you will love it.

    Hi all,
I am new to this list and have recently booked my first trip to Roatan for late April. I have to
admit that my hopes for a great vacation have been somewhat overshadowed by the constant stream of
emails about crime. Certainly I want to know that it is good to be cautious when traveling, but I'm
getting the impression that I'm headed for trouble. If the criminals don't get me, the bugs will!

I know there must be so much that's good about Roatan for people go back over and over again and
even buy property and move there. So I would love to hear from those of you who are repeat visitors
or residents and help me to anticipate reasons why I will enjoy my visit too.
I would specifically love some recommendations of dive sites to visit since I am an avid diver.
