| | Subject: | [roatan] Followup question to the crime topic....
|
Greetings,
My wife and I are evaluating considering buying or building a second home in either Roatan or Panama and have been following the respective boards and issues with locals etc...
We are somewhat concerned by a couple of things...
-Even though there is heightened awareness, great intentions, and gathering community resolve to do all that can be done to address the growing crime problem....the fact is that it will take many different things on a sustained basis to have a meaningful impact. I understand that residence and visitors must excercise common sense (we have spent a lot of time in third world countries...and that rule applies everywhere of course) but would really like the straight story from locals on how big of an issue this really is. I am sure that nobody wants the situation to degenerate into a situation where everyone must have a firearm, guarddogs, and inpenetrable walls etc...(in the direction of Jamaica.) Anyhow, your additional input of this worn out but important topic is appreciated.
-communications and healthcare..- A fairly dependable phone and internet connection is important. A fairly dependable emergency healthcare facility is important....Your realworld comments on the state of these two elements is appreciated...
Thanks in advance for any informed input on these topics...
