    Hi Joe,

I was one of the few, the proud, the engineers - in particular, a
Mathematical Sciences major, among a sea of pre-meds! :-)

Since I was there for a month, I decided to strike a balance between eating
out and eating in my room. When I ate out, I usually ate at Las Rocas since
I know the people well. They are at the very east end of West Bay Beach
past another restaurant, Bite on the Beach. There are also good restaurants
in West Bay at the Mayan Princess, Henry Morgan, and Foster's. If you take
a water taxi (30 lemps or $2) to West End, there are lots of great places
(Argentine Grill, Mango Inn, the Belvedere, etc.)

Since I was there for a month, I also ate in my room. There is a small
minimart near the Coconut Tree that is open every day that has some good
staples (soft drinks, bread, some microwavables, peanut butter, snacks).
There are also some markets in West End (e.g. Woodies) that you can get to
by water taxi. I also went to both Eldon's (French Harbor - 45 minutes
aways) and Warren's (Coxen Hole - 20 minutes away). These will cost you $
to get to unless you can get a ride with a friend or have a rental car but
they are great markets (deli section, meats, cold cuts, etc). Just know
that if you buy foreign brands they will cost more. Search the archives for
articles about cash vs. credit cards.

For airlines, it really depends on your point of departure. TACA flies to
LA, San Francisco, Houston, Miami, and other US Cities. Weekends usually
give you the best flights with either non stop service to Roatan or a change
planes in San Salvador. Continental now flies to Roatan twice on Saturdays.
If you fly during other days of the week, you will probably need to fly into
San Pedro Sula or Tegucigalpa (American, Continental among others) and then
change to a local carrier to get to Roatan (probably with a plane change in
La Ceiba). You can search the archives at roatanet.com for more info.
    Have a great trip!

    Hello,

I stayed at Bananarama for a month last year to work on my PADI Divemaster
qualification. The dive shop is run by Anja and Liber who are both
excellent instructors. They have two dives in the morning and two in the
afternoon. When I was there they had two smaller boats that could hold
between six and eight divers and they were in the process of getting a
larger boat up and running. The dive times were usually 45-50 minutes.

As far as the lodging, I stayed in one of the newer suites. It had a living
room area, separate bedroom, bathroom, television, and kitchenette
(microwave, fridge, purified water). Air conditioning was available (there
may be a small charge for this each day). Breakfast is included each day
and usually consisted of a hot entree or cereal along with coffee. Internet
access is available in the office.

I had a good time and would recommend it.

    Regards,

    Jeff Levine
