Yes, you saw what LOOKED like a chinese restaurant. This place was jammed the first weeks that it was open; you couldn't find a place to park in front of it. Now, several months later, there never seems to be a car in front of it. I gave it 3 chances after the crowds began to dwindle (hoping that I had hit them on a bad day the first 2 times): very limited menu, mostly variations on chop suey noodles and rice dishes; meats and vegetables grossly -- I mean GROSSLY --overcooked; everything was lacking in flavor, as in "insipid," certainly nothing with any kind of authentic Chinese character. Great disappointment. I think they're getting by on transient traffic that haven't tried, or heard about, them. Having a great craving for Chinese, I was inclined to be rahter forgiving but this place (an extension of a San Predro or Teguz chain, I believe) is an insult to the dining public. The best I can say is I didn't get sick after eating there.
If you're looking for something quite good with an oriental twist, by all mean's try the fairly new Vietnamese resturarant in West End. The name escapes me as I write this, but you can find it where Tyll's Dive Shop is. Their combination appetizer platter makes an interesting and satisfying dinner for two; Frank (the manager/maitre d'/waiter offers a fairly nice slection of winesl and the prices are very reasonable. Bon appetit. -Tom
