Subject: [roatan] Child murdered at West End (Sad News Indeed)

Rick... this really hits home... though all the way here in Connecticut.
It reawakened old, very old memories. I was a little boy around 10, when my mother sent me out one evening to sell bread in San Pedro Sula to help make ends meet... And I was on my way back home, when I was assaulted by two grown men who grabbed a hold of my neck, pushed me into some bushes behind some old cars and began strangling me. Fortunately, there was a watchman sleeping in a truck in a near by mechanic garage. He thought we were just kids playing around and yelled out from behind the old truck. They released my neck perhaps just in time before the breath of life left my body and that is why am here to share my story. The watchman came out to assist me, he was upset because he did ketch them, but I was happy of his being there period. I might have had less than 7 Lempiras in my pocket... the year was 1969. Not sure if back then 7Lempiras would have worth my life:-(

Oh, Honduras... all these years have passed and we still haven't learned to love. My prayers are with the little boy and his family... This is so sad.

I just got back from West End and found out that one little local boys who sold "empanadas" and "baleadas" snacks was murdered in the vicinity of the Pura Vida Restaurant and Hotel.

Apparently this must have happened last night. Since I got the story third hand, it appears the little boy was robbed of the few Lemps that he had earned for his family. Apparently he was strangled to death. Sad, very sad.

The authorities supposedly have started their investigations but the different merchants who I know in the area don't believe anyone will be taken into custody and charged. Those same merchants also think that this incident will be swept under the carpet, they're disgusted with the way things are going.

I, for one, am very saddened that something like this could happen to someone so young. Crime, as I've said many times before has to be addressed and quickly. Let's just see what happens now. By the way, are the Canatuhr meetings all dead and gone? What happened to all the furor after the recent robberies which happened during broad daylight?

Like I said before, what is it going to take before the authorities start playing hardball and tackling the growing crime issue, some more deaths?

    Rick
