Hello, My name is David. I have a girlfriend from Honduras an will be
traveling to Olancho to met them soon. While I am in Honduras I would like to also
visit Roatan. Don't know if this is a possibility, but I would like to find a
job in a hotel, restaurant or bar for 6-8 weeks. For the last three years I
have been working as a manager of a gentlemens club here in Sarasota. I have
a lot of restaurant and night club exp. Just turned 29 two days ago an
decided this would be a great time in my life to get out of the States for a little
bit an see what the world has to offer. If you do not have any short term
jobs could you please send me in the right direction. Please contact me at
_davidpate26.....com_ (mailto:davidpate26.....com) or call me at
    1-941-351-5067. Sincerely, David Pate

    HI David,

This is too odd that you wrote me today!!!

This EXACT subject also just came up on a Roatan e-mail discussion group
    today!

But it doesn't matter--and we DO get e-mail like this often.

Unfortunately--for you--our answer is always going to be the same.

FYI, it is illegal for you--as a non Honduran--to work at ANY job a Honduran
could reasonably be expected to do--just like it is stateside for
non-nationals who try to come into our country and take jobs from Americans. If you're
    a doctor or teacher--or highly skilled/educated--maybe there's a need for
you to come here for a job. We have 50% unemployment here in Honduras--even
with a VERY low minimum wage in the 50 cents to $1 per hour range.

Needless to say, these labor laws and the poverty/unemployment situation
means we have no work for you here. We either hire Hondurans or do it
ourselves--mostly we do it ourselves as we are a small Inn. Most people here in our
situation do. But maybe someone else in a larger place has a need for your
expertise that I am unaware of -- and has a way to get around this legal
    situation.

So I'm am also posting this question and our answer to a Honduras list for
    you.

One--because I get e-mail just like yours so often I'm hoping others like
you will read this and not keep writing to us here looking for jobs we don't
    have.

Two, because if there IS any work to be found for you on Roatan one of the
members on this list will be able to get in touch with you.

As always, we hope this helps everyone.

    Also sincerely,
    Waylon and Sandy Sims
