It is my understanding that here in the state of Georgia (USA)...every
citizen has the right to defend their life and that of their family
members whenever they feel threatened by an intruder within their own
home...to include the use of deadly force such as a firearm.

It is also not necessary in Georgia to "register" ones firearms with the
government...courtesy of the 2nd Amendment to the US Constitution (also
known as the Bill of Rights for individuals).

On a related topic, in the past few years many states (including
Georgia) have also begun offering Concealed Weapons Permits to their
citizens. Every state that offers CWPs have subsequently enjoyed a drop
in violent crime. It is a matter of ongoing debate as to how much of
this drop can be attributed to tougher sentencing laws versus the threat
of deadly retaliation by ordinary citizens against their potential
    attackers.

There are those who will argue that the growing crime problem in
Honduras (and here in the US, for that matter) is NOT "too many people
toting guns"...but rather we are effectively allowing only the criminal
element to arm themselves. If policemen can be trained to carry and
responsibly use firearms to stop criminal activity...so can ordinary
    citizens.

Personally, I believe crime is merely a symptom...and that its root
cause is the willful, sinful nature that we were all born with (which we
inherited from Adam and Eve). The only real solution to the worlds
problem of crime...is for each of to personally, genuinely and humbly
repent of our own sins to the God who made each of us in His image...and
accept the salvation offered by Jesus Christ who died to pay the price
for our many sins...and then show our "neighbor" how and why he/she can
do the same. The other option is to ignore Him and remained condemned
to spend eternity with Satan in hell.

    Marsha -

Except in the old western movies, the same thing would have happended
in the good old USA. Self defense is a justification for homicide
which must be raised in the proceedings and the force used must have
been appropriate under the circumstances. Defense of property will not
    cut it under US law.

My opinion only, Honduras already has too many people toting guns. If
you are going to have one you need to realize the consequences before
    using it.

Hopefully for Peter things work out.
