Good afternoon everyone...
We are in the process of revving up for the Conference on Honduras 2005. The written invitations are being printed up and they will be mailed out very soon. We will be mailing out 1,000 invites this year, with the goal of attracting some 400 people to this year's conference.
The Conference on Honduras 2005 will be the sixth consecutive conference. Our first three conferences in 2000, 2001 and 2002 were held in Washington, DC. Our last two in 2003 and 2004 were held in Copan Ruinas.
This year's conference will again be held in Copan Ruinas at the Municipal Conference Center. The dates are October 20, 21, 22 and 23.
For information on the conference and how to register, please see http://www.projecthonduras.com/conference
At the moment, we have 17 confirmed attendees for the conference. The registration fee is $100 per person through the end of June. During July-September, the fee will increase to $125 per person. Please register early to take advantage of the standard fee and to help us firm up logistics for the event.
Again, the conference will focus on healthcare, education and community building. I am hoping we will have Kathy Tschiegg of CAMO (http://www.camo.org) do a repeat performance of last year's wonderful sustainable programs workshop. We received nothing but praise for that full-day event. I recall we had about 40 individuals participate.
The one thing that will be different this year will be that we will dedicate one full day to the concept of "social tourism". I would like to use the day to help us develop a clear vision of a "Social Tourism Program" to create a partnership between businesses in Honduras and individuals/organizations working on volunteer projects to help the people of Honduras.
If you look at http://www.projecthonduras.com/socialtourismprogram, you'll see a list of those businesses that have already committed to the Social Tourism Program by offering discounts of between 10-20% on accommodations or services. If you wish to participate in this program, please e-mail me at hondopost.....com.
Thanks, Marco
