List,
In June 2003, we created the Honduras Episcopal Support Forum. The goal of the listserv was to try and network all of the Episcopal churches in the US that are involved in projects to help Honduras. My vision was to use the listserv to get Episcopal churches to coordinate their work more so that each can build on each other's strengths and avoid having to re-invent the wheel unless needed.
During the past two years, several people have e-mailed me and asked why I did not create listservs for other Chrisitan denominations (or for other religions, for that matter). My response was that the Episcopal forum was kind of unique in that it was designed specifically to support the Episcopal Diocese of Honduras and that it was based largely on my personal relationship with the Bishop of the diocese and the fact that I happen to be Episcopalian. There are not "diocese" for most other denominations within Honduras, and so it would be difficult to replicate for other denominations what I had in mind with regard to the Episcopal forum.
I was never 100% at ease with my response. What it really came down to was that I didn't want to create a separate listserv for every faith-based organization. I just didn't think I could manage it all.
The Honduras Episcopal Support Forum has never really "taken off" like I envisioned. It has not been very active and has not developed its own character. Thus, I've decided to revise the scope of that listserv. I have renamed it the "Honduras Faith-based Support Forum", and its goal is simply to encourage churches and religious organizations of all faiths to exchange information about the work they are doing in Honduras. The idea (which is central to projecthonduras.com) is to get these groups to talk to each other... before, during, and after they engage in projects.
If you'd like to subscribe to the Honduras Faith-based Support Forum, go to http://www.projecthonduras.com/network.htm. I estimate that at least one-third of the foreign humanitarian work being conducted in/for Honduras is done so by faith-based individuals/groups.
Thanks, Marco
