I believe you can now get SIM cards at the airport at the internet access store in the lobby of the airport. You can also buy them at Roatan Wireless in Coxen Hole and I believe there is also a pharmacy in West End that sells them. I used my GSM phone with Megatel and had no problems. Coverage was very good in West End and West Bay. With Megatel (not sure about CelTel) you do have the ability to configure the voice mail to work in either English or Spanish. I also tried to roam with my US cell number but at that time was not able to do so. I was told that this has been fixed but have not been able to verify it.

I understand that I just need to buy a sim card in Roatan to get local rates. I spoke to:
http://www.celtel.net/ They said the sim card is $5.00 and incoming calls are free and outgoing are 25 cents/min and they use the 850 frequency.
http://www.megatel.hn/gsm.htm said they use the 1900 frequency. Can anyone confirm where to get local sim cards and if there is a choice which service to go with? I am not interested in AMPS or CDMA prepaid cards just GSM.
