SUBJ: Social Tourism segment of the Conference on
    Honduras 2005
I've been thinking about how to structure the Social
Tourism "segment" of the conference. Here's what I've
    come up with so far...

First, the segment will take place on Thursday,
    October 21.

I would like to dedicate most (if not all) of the
morning to a "Panel on Social Tourism". The panel
would be held in the main conference hall of the
Municipal Conference Center, and the session would be
open to all conferees (both those who registered for
the entire conference and those who registered only
for the one-day social tourism segment). I would like
the panel to consist of about 5-8 speakers.

I would like these speakers to represent different
sectors of the tourism industry in Honduras. I'd like
to have Dennis be the lead speaker so he could
describe our "vision" for setting up a "Social Tourism
    Program".

I would like to have a representative of the Institute
of Tourism. I would like this person to be either
Kenia Lima de Zapata or Karla Calidonia, because these
are the two individuals who truly have a feel for what
we have in mind for the Social Tourism Program. They
are also great marketing people, and this is what we
most need to make the program happen.

In addition, I'd like to have representatives of the
hotel sector, the food services sector, the
transportation sector, a person from the financial
services sector (credit cards), and a top person from
Customs. I'd also like to try and have Sandra Sampayo
of Bay Islands Tourism speak. I've exchanged a few
e-mails with Sandra, and I think she understands the
    concept we're trying to push.

The goal here is to get different perspectives and
develop partnerships with people who could be
instrumental in helping us promote the program and
    resolve problems.

At the end of the panel presentations, I'd like to
have an "open forum" period lasting no more than one
hour. During this period, people in the audience
would be free to ask questions, make comments, and
    offer suggestions.

After lunch, I'd like only the social tourism industry
people to meet at the Hotel Marina Copan's conference
room for an afternoon "Social Tourism Workshop". The
purpose of the workshop would be to take what we
learned from the morning session (including networking
opportunities with people during the coffee breaks and
over lunch), and do some "brainstorming". What do
need to do to create the program and implement an
    efficient, easy, and professional system?

I'd like us to leave the afternoon session with a list
of no more than 10 action items we need to implement
to make the program/system come into existence before
    the Conference on Honduras 2006.

Let me know what you think. If you think I'm on the
wrong track or missing something important, I
encourage you to be extremely candid with me. The
Social Tourism segment is still just a foggy idea in
my mind. I am looking for assistance in "putting some
    meat" on it.

Again, the idea of it all is very simple... Let's
create an incentives system to encourage social
tourists to keep coming back to Honduras every year
and attract new social tourists. The system would be
based on providing discounted rates for everything for
lodging and food services to transportation and
entertainment. The concept is simple. The
organization and implementation is the tough part.

    Thanks!
