    Subject: [roatan] Mounted Police

I have a friend who is a mounted policeman here in New Orleans and a
few years back he and 2 other officers were commissioned to go to
Roatan and teach the police there how to patrol on horseback.Everything
was in place. The horses and saddles and all equiptment .They stayed on
the island for about a month and taught them how to do street
    patrols,beach patrols,crowd control ect.....When I mentioned to
Kirk(Officer who went to Roatan) what was going on with the crime in
Roatan he could not believe it.He said that someone had spent a hell of
a lot of money for them to go there and teach equine police
patrol.Anyone know whatever happened to this project that evidently
went awry? And why couldn't this be started up again? The presence of an
officer on a horse is an excellent deterent to criminals. Also, grass is
plentiful on the island and that and a little grain is the only fuel a
horse needs.Someone out there must remember this.I want feedback
    please.
