    Money?
Exchanges as something like 18.86 Lempiras for one US dollar. Now that you
know this you can use your dollars and know you've got the right change, eh?
That is if they have change. Be more worried about having small bills 'cause
few places have change--than about what kind of bills they are and you'll do
fine. Dollars are accepted everywhere--and most places come pretty close to
the bank rate of exchange here. Don't go to the bank for exchange--will take
hours and is a waste of time. We'll ALL take dollars--most of us prefer them!

    Safety?
Without getting on a HUGE soapbox, I'm really tired of hearing about this.
Here posting today on this list we have a guest coming to Roatan who is
worried about safety at Parrot Tree to go to the Shrimp Festival? As anyone who
lives here knows, this is NOT a problem. But when so much is made of the
safety issue, people coming here haven't a clue where is and isn't safe and start
jumping at shadows in the dairy aisle of Eldons when a guard watching for
shoplifters walks by. Not to say that safety and fighting crime isn't an
important issue--here as it is everywhere--just that I think there's been too much
posted on the subject lately and not enough posted about other things.

    Have we forgotten?
How pretty the sunset is when you drive down the mountaintop road headed
east? Or when sitting on the beach in West Bay?

How friendly the island is--how if you get a flat someone will stop to help
you on the side of the road--often before you can even get out of your car?
(My son-in law with car trouble--a visitor here--was given a long ride home
the other day by an islander who shall remain nameless--but who would've never
    considered doing anything else.)

How an awesome ocean view hilltop here still costs less that a tract lot
    stateside?

How phenomenally tasty the Wasabi shrimp is at Dian's--the eggs rolls at The
Vietnamese--or the conch fritters are at Lighthouse?

How you can get a great ocean front, a/c room in a nice neighborhood here
for $60 --or a house for under $100? Or how you can sit by the beach with a
beer in a dozen places for a couple of bucks?

Dive an awesome reef for $25? Snorkel from shore tons of spots? In what
    other world?!?

How the wild parrots are in the trees are jabbering this morning--the water
is clear and blue--the sun is shining.

How the reef sparkles and the sea fans wave--JUST ABOUT EVERYWHERE!

So I must ask you--all of you--Is it all REALLY so bad here?

In short, have some of us forgotten to pay much attention to what we have?

Ok so it's human nature to NEVER be satisfied.

But, really, can't we be a bit less negative and a bit more attentive to
what IS good about our home?

Noticed the full moon lately? Done it to music? Tried dancing with someone
you care about while you watch?

Living in paradise is NOT about a place--it's about YOU -- and how YOU
decide to live your life. Be it here---or ANYWHERE you go!

Really living also requires you do it NOW--not after you get the deck water
    sealed.

Isn't this what we all came here for?

Ok, so some will call me shallow--say I'm being silly--or even worse just
rampantly promoting Roatan for my own gain. Have at it! In the end I'll still
have a better day when the sun sets at the end of it, eh?

Maybe at least try a day to post the "ups"--another for the "downs" of
    island life?

Because the new folks coming here don't understand--and--quite
    frankly--neither do I.

As always, we hope this helps!

(Sorry, I guess I got on that soapbox after all)
